The development of ESDAT is co-ordinated by EarthScience Information Systems in partnership with other geo-scientific software organisations.  Development staff at EarthScience Information Systems have a geo-scientific background and are experienced in and understand the data, analysis, and outputs that scientists and engineers require.

ESDAT was produced to address the lack of an effective, transparent, system for dealing with hydrogeological and time-series environmental data and for manipulating and reporting this data in the various packages used by professionals. Databases provided with ESDAT are designed to be intuitive for scientific users to understand, and the database design closely represent the physical relationships of the data.  This results in transparency to the technical user base.
